A Globally-Recognized Destination for Business
Maine is #1 for quality of life in fDi magazine's 2005 “US Cities and States of the Future.” For best IT and telecoms, Maine tied for 3rd with Texas and Maryland. The magazine is a sister publication of the London Financial Times.

Maine was one of 10 states to receive an “A” in the Corporation for Enterprise Development's 2005 Assets and Opportunity Scorecard, which ranks areas including business development and tax policy.

Nationwide, Portland is the hottest small business market in which to develop a company (American City Business Journals).

Portland and Lewiston-Auburn received high rankings nationally in Inc.'s 2005 “Top U.S. Cities For Doing Business.”

A Solid Infrastructure
Maine leads the country with its telecommunications infrastructure with more than 110,000 miles of fiber optic cable.

Maine has 64 public airports: two are international, 15 accommodate corporate jets, and seven offer commercial passenger service.

Maine is home to six railroad companies operating over 1,400 miles of track and connecting to major rail carriers in the U.S. and Canada.

Maine has three major seaports including the closest U.S. port to Europe.

I-95 runs through the length of the state, and Maine does not engage in economic regulation of the trucking industry.

New Business Growth Initiatives
The State is developing a research triangle to focus on diabetes, cancer, heart disease, obesity and osteoporosis.

The Pine Tree Zone business incentive program offers aggressive tax refunds and exemptions as well as reduced electric rates.

The State's DirigoChoice offers affordable, high quality health insurance to businesses and their employees.
